Sorry I didn't get to respond sooner...

In a number of different sources, I've read that leggy basil can be planted up to the first leaves. I wouldn't remove any leaves and place them deeper in the soil (as you can with tomatoes), but it sounds like burying a good portion of stem won't hurt the plant.

Thanks, Ginger. I buried them about halfway, but we're looking at yet another 8 days of clouds and rain, so I might have to transplant them again if they continue to stretch. Rolling Eyes
