Caging other stuff?

Post  desertgirl on 4/18/2010, 6:57 pm

Has anyone tried to use cages, stakes etc. to handle veggies other than tomatoes (cucumbers, squash etc). I've read about this, but can't seem to find any info/pics. Would love to find an option other than trellising, as I have a hinged cover on my SFG.

Thanks!

One year I grew cukes and melons on stout cages and it worked fine. I used concrete reinforcing wire 5' high and 5' long which made 18" diameter cages. My only problem with the cukes is I'd miss a few in the middle due to all the foliage and they'd grow to maturity. Keep us posted if you decide to do it.
