SFG instructor teaches juvenile detention facility

Post  sfgteachers on 2/19/2013, 9:15 pm

The link below is to a TV video showcasing the Juvenile Men's Detention facility where I did the final site inspections and worked with the boys on Thursday. What an incredible experience! We had a salad party with all "students" eating a kale salad they had grown the ingredients for themselves. Listening to these young men tell me that they wanted to know how to grow roses for their moms or how growing the flowers makes them feel so good and that they are so grateful that now they know how to grow food for their families and themselves was such a reinforcement as to why we do what we do. I was able to teach the young men about seed harvesting and disease prevention. Awesome, just awesome. They felt so empowered and 3 of them asked if they could continue learning with our foundation when they get out. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F5s8gCYcz4s

That's great now if we could only get the system to take it to the next level and grow the food they need to keep the cost down , & teach the kids a little more of a skill they can use when they move on Shocked Smile
