Hi from North Texas !!!

Hi guys! I'm brand new to SFG, and it looks like I'm the only Texan here. Was wondering if I'll get topical info for my region/zone etc.... ? Just turned over my garden today and was very pleased to see that all my composting over the past year has paid off. I have earthworms !!! Big healthy worms, and the red clay is finally a thing of the past. I hope this will be a great growing year. Also, purchasing rain barrels to facilitate watering....

Hi and glad you\'re here to the forum! I know there are other Texans here just can't remember names at the moment but there are lots of people with your same growing conditions to share information! Good work on the composting cheers too! Sounds like you have read the book and are ready to go! Keep us posted on your progress and post pics!!

Hello Geno,

Welcome to the forum and yes there are quite a few gardeners from Texas who SFG and post on this site. I live just north of the DFW airport on the border of zone 7b/8a. I have about 250 sq ft of garden, about 225 of it in raised-bed SFG using Mels Mix as the planting medium. I garden all year round.

I believe the best way to start is to get a copy of the "All New Square Foot Gardening" book if you don't have it.

Another good source is - http://aggie-horticulture.tamu.edu/publications/veg_variety/ for specific vegetable varieties for your area. Texas A&M has a LOT of good information on their website if you poke around a little (about bugs, plants, planting zones, etc.).

Everyone here will be very happy to help, so ask as many questions as you can.

Welcome from the great white north. We have differing climes so plant at different times, but doing an SFG is better anywhere.
