Jackpot! Vermiculite Coarse Grade!!

Post  Dunkinjean on 3/3/2013, 11:20 pm

My hubby called our nursery farm, Ferris Farms last week and to our surprise he has Vermiculite Coarse Grade at $14.99 for 3.3cu ft each bag! He also had 4 types of compost which is very hard to find in our area. I also bought Chickee Doo Doo! He also gave us a discount since we purchased alot of materials - 21 bags in total!

On Sunday my 4x8 box and my sister-in-law's box set-up, filled up with Mel's mix, watered, trellis set up and now just waiting for the weather to warm a bit,Smile

We all have to start somewhere. It is great that you have joined the forum and are growing your veg's by Square Foot Gardening.

My 1st year I started with one 4x4 box, the following year I added two more 4x4 boxes. Then two 2x6 boxes for my garlic. This year I added a 4x10 box to try the "three sisters" garden. I must confess that I do not start any seedlings. I purchase seeds and direct sow them into my garden. I do purchase transplants for my peppers and tomatoes.

Do what works for you and the main thing it should be fun!Very Happy

Congrats! Ferris Farms is great. Last year they had an issue where the vermiculite bags were half-destroyed by something during the winter and it took forever for them to get it re-bagged and in stock, but they were a great one-stop shop for all things SFG. Smile Now I need to find a place like that around southeast PA!

Hi Diana and welcome. Try looking at the vermiculite database here: http://squarefoot.creatingforum.com/Vermiculite-Entry-Form-h1.htm. You might also post your question in the regional forum for northern California (I'm assuming that would be the right one): http://squarefoot.creatingforum.com/f13-northern-california-coastal-valleys

Can't beat a good find like that! Here's to hoping for some warm weather SOON!!

Dianag, medium grade is fine to use if that's all you can get!
