I have some plants in full sun...and the same type plants in another area that is shaded in the morning and evening...and the shaded garden is thriving this year comparatively.

One thing I do know is that last year the self-sown Scarlet Runner beans did beautifully in the shady part of my garden, they were long and tender.  The ones I sowed in the sunnier part did not thrive nearly as well.
