commercial compost

If anyone gets a chance, check out Redbud Compost out of Elmore City, Oklahoma. It is now available in 40lb. bags in the Kansas City area. From what I've seen, they produce a high quality finished compost (much better than I've experienced with junk, unfinished "compost" often sold in the midwest.

I will have to let my family in the area know about that! Thanks for the tip!

The company was started by Jose Montalvo...a city boy and contractor from New Mexico who trained horses...he moved to OK and bought some ground the local extension agent said was worthless...so Jose started composting on a large scale to work into his fields (his compost piles are about 500' long)...he and his wife are going to try vegetable gardening for the first time this year after seeing their fields come back to life. They are a new small company...their stuff is available in KC just this year and they are looking to get to the Dallas market soon.
