Newbie Here, My SFG!

Post  nikkablue on 4/18/2010, 9:16 pm

Hello, newbie gardener here. This is my second year gardening and my first year SFG. I thought I'd share some pics with ya'll.

My boyfriend built my box, even though I was going to do it myself, because he believes women and power tools are unnatural :

Here is the finished box. It's 2 ft x 10 ft due to the fact that the only place in the yard that gets sun all day is about 2 ft x 10ft. I hadn't put the liner in yet because I didn't have the fence up yet and I didn't want my dogs to tear up the liner:

Here is the fenced area with the trellis up. I trellised off the 2 4ft areas of the box and left the middle untrellised hopefully this will work, does anybody know? Or do I need to trellis the whole thing?

I know the fence seems kind of high to just keep the dogs out but:

With 2 dobermans and a great dane, the fence has to be rather high. The dobermans jump over fences and the dane is taller than most fences!

Here is the box filled and gridded. The grid is just some 1 inch molding that I found at Menards I drilled holes and put it together with nuts and bolts then, I screwed the short ends to the box:

The boxs are ready to be planted, My youngest snuck through the gate to help:

The seeds are in. I have carrots, beets, radishes, marigolds, and onions although the onions went in late. I haven't filled the other sqaures yet because it's not time to plant those yet.

Anyway, that's my square foot garden area. Thanks for looking!

What a lovely SFG you have! I know you will enjoy it!! You have gorgeous fur babies too!

I put a small bird bath in my garden area today. Next thing I knew my grand dog, Bella the boxer was drinking from it!! I knew she would though!!

First time SFG girl here too !! Fourth year working on gardening. I love your set up, well planned !! It is so well put together and neat! I like how you have the trellis set up in the back. We too have fur babies to keep out of the garden. Our fence is just shorter :-D

Happy Gardening
