Hello from upstate S. Carolina

Post  SCarolinaSFG on 3/16/2013, 9:23 pm

It is so good to find this site! I will need all the help I can get. We will be putting our
raised beds together this week. I am having a hard time finding the vermiculite.
Along with that I planned to use peat moss, mushroom compost, composted cow manure and still looking for other good compost. Would like to find some vermicompost also. We are going to put down weed cloth and several layers of newspaper. I would love any suggestion, as I am willing to learn from others mistakes lol

Vermiculite Sources

I am in Darlington and I found the vermiculite at Southern States. It's not coarse but worked fine last year. I think there is one in Anderson and maybe Pendleton if you live in that area.

Try this: http://palmettovermiculite.com/Vermiculite_Products.asp

That's one of the mines; last I knew it was $12 a bag. You can't get it any cheaper than this.

That is the brand my local farmer's supply and the garden shop carries. The 4 cu ft red A-3 coarse bag is $17.99 to $19.99.

But did you notice the green SQUARE FOOT GARDENING BAG? I wonder how much they charge for that? Razz
I've never seen it at a retail store.
