Compost Tumbler is working

Post  jimmy cee on 3/23/2013, 11:49 pm

I picked up the Enviro-Cycle compost tumbler last Oct.
Started filling it with lots of stuff, over the winter since it was close to the house I used it for all of our kitchen cuttings.
It has a reservoir under underneath the barrel that catches compost tea.
I moved it today to another spot, poured about almost 2 gallons of what looked liked used motor oil, (compost tea) it's no wonder a 1-10 water mix is suggested.
After rolling the barrel about 40 feet, setting back up on the rollers, I opened the loading door and a steamy mist rolled out.
Afew days ago I tossed in some shredded cardboard, maybe this helped it along.
It's doing nicely, not the sun should hit it more than before, when it gets really warm out it wil be protected by a rose of sharon bush.
Thought I'd post this for those tumblers out there....

Oh yay! It sure sounds like you got a great balance in there! Doesn't that feel great when it works, and so well! I should put some sort of container under mine, good idea!

Hi Jimmy,

Sounds like you have things going your way with the tumbler. I emptied a load out of mine last week that I started late last fall and it was some beautiful stuff. Re-loaded it and will be adding kitchen scraps again. Keep that thing located close to the back door so you will be encouraged to work with it (just like Mel say to do with our SFG).
