nitrogen pellets for compost pile

I have a large container of nitrogen pellets, little white balls , looks like sleet.
Would this be a good source of nitrogen in a compost pile ?
Scattered throughout of course .

Hi Jimmy, they would certainly heat the pile, but I'm not sure you would remain "organic" if you used them.

Sounds a lot more organic than a lot of things. I'm an almost organic gardener. I try but Occasionally something else is needed.

Are you trying to feed the microbes in the compost pile? Or up the nitrogen content of the finished product? If this is to get a compost pile to heat up I am not sure it would work, that heat is created by the microbes eating yummy stuff with nitrogen in it. I suspect that nitrogen fertilizer pellets are very strong and would kill the microbes right around them, having the opposite effect. Has any one tried this?

Yes for the heating up to cook the pile.

There are lot's of things you can use to heat up your pile quickly if that's what you're looking to do. Alfalfa pellets, blood meal, corn meal... Very Happy

I've heard about alfalfa pellets before, going down to pick some up.
Are they sparingly spread on the pile ? or just dumped in spots.
