Mighty Mato - Grafted

Post  H_TX_2 on 4/5/2013, 5:54 pm

Has anyone here had any experience with Mighy Mato or other grafted tomato plants? The guy at the nursery recommended them when I asked about tomato plants that are good producers. I didn't look at the price but I am thinking about trying one to see how well it works.

I have no personal experience, but a friend of mine here in SD has planted grafted tomatoes here for years - he is also one of the best gardeners I know. He always has BEAUTIFUL tomatoes, even if they aren't grown in MM! tongue

Grafted tomatoes (and peppers and eggplants) are definitely interesting and worth a try. I have three tomatoes mail-ordered, set to be shipped to me May 15. I did a little research on them and posted an article on my blog.

I also asked for some advice here about the implications of growing in a SFG, considering that the root mass is supposed to be 4-5 times larger and is so vigorous the growers recommend training to 2 leaders instead of one to absorb the extra energy. Could all be just marketing hype, but it will be fun to see what happens.
