Over zealous lettuce seedlings

Post  Jaodissa on 4/5/2013, 8:26 pm

So before I started researching I started some seedlings. I put something like 6-8 seeds per jiffy pellet. Well now all my lettuces are growing beautifully, but Im not really sure how to separate them. I still don't have my planter boxes filled which is bad because im out of time. All my seedlings have so many "true leaves" they really need to be planted all ready. Sigh. Okay anyways back to the main tpoic. How do I pull them apart without killing them all.

Soak the pot for two hours in about three inches of ( at air temp ) water and gently try to tease them out as you split the pellet apart .
Failing that ... after the good old soaking , use a pair of big scissors and cut the pellet apart taking a plant out with as much root as you can at each cut . Then plant them watering them in well & after that water when needed ..they will soon grow new roots if kept in a moist quality growth medium such as MM .
