What direction to position greenhouse

Post  canada6827 on 4/12/2013, 1:21 pm

My husband and I made a greenhouse out of recycled material around the farm. It is an A-frame structure, approx 8" at highest point and 8" and widest point (floor), covered in plastic. A door is made from old tent side that had zipper in it we stapled to one end.
Should the end face north/south or east/west? We live in zone 8, s of Dallas TX. Also have some trees on west side from neighbors property.
Thanks

You want to capture as much direct sunlight as possible for a greenhouse, so you would want the ends facing east/west with the longer sides facing south. The north side does nothing(in the northern hemisphere), so it could even be opaque(some people use the wall of their house for the north side of a greenhouse).

so do you think the back side should face east so I could put more seedlings along that wall to get morning sun? I may try to change doorway to clear material.
Thanks for your response.

if the large sides are oriented north/ south then yes, having clear plastic facing east would let in more morning light.
