Eeek! Very creepy-looking.
I found this link
http://en.rocketnews24.com/2013/02/04/what-happens-when-a-strawberrys-seeds-start-to-germinate/
and it is called vivipary apparently.
(Hope it is not catching)

Well, sandij, I've never seen this happen before, but, the seeds on the outside of the strawberries is sprouting!
Maybe the berries are staying too wet? Maybe putting a mulch(preferable pine straw) to raise the berries up away from the mm, and only water early so berries don't stay wet?

Icemaiden, thanks for the link. I have never seen this before and it is amazing. Mine have never done this, but I may see if I can get a few berries to do this!

I've not seen strawberries sprout like this, but I have seen tomatoes do it. In fact, I have some grape tomatoes on my counter now looking wrinkled and getting ready to sprout from the inside!
This reminded me of another thread from awhile back. Had to go digging to find the link:

It was an interesting-learning experiment! Mwaaaahhh....

Wow! That's weird and very interesting! I loved the link, too. It had some really interesting info on it, and cool pictures. I loved that square strawberry at the end. Oh Japan and it's square fruit....

So cool!
I always wondered why it didn't seem like strawberry seeds grow--so nice to see that they can! (also loved the tomato detour, hadn't seen that back then)

That is very cool! I wonder what conditions are needed for both the strawberry and tomato to get the seeds to sprout?
