ants in the compost pile

Post  jab3359 on 4/24/2013, 2:09 pm

Hi, I have my first compost pile in the works and it seems to be progressing nicely. I started it in January and filled the bin so I have been just turning it since then and adding water when it looks dry. I have noticed recently that it is just crawling with ants everywhere. I am wondering if this is normal or is it going to be a problem? If it is still full of ants when it is complete and I want to use the compost will the ants be harmful or maybe beneficial to the plants?

There are several threads about ants. Use the search feature top left column.

Here is one form our area (southern CA);
