1st Harvest and Garden Pictures

Post  NAR56 on 5/8/2013, 4:42 pm

Hello All,
We just wanted to share with you our first harvest of 2013 and a few garden pictures. We have been getting lots of rain which has helped the garden take off. We have 3 beds: 1 for tomatoes, 1 for vine plants, and 1 for everything else.

1st harvest is this Zucchini.

Yellow Squash

Tomatoes and Radishes

Vine bed with Zucchini, Yellow Squash, and Sunflowers

Corn and Pole Beans

In our main bed we have Bell Peppers, Sweet Peppers, Eggplant, Basil, Corn and Pole Beans. The Sunflowers I planted from seed for my wife are about 6 1/2 feet tall now and still growing! The tomato plants are just now starting to put out little green tomatoes. We planted Roma, Sweet 100s, and Big Beef tomatoes.

Enjoy,
NAR

Fantastic looking garden NAR. Looks like your weather has been most favorable and your crops are more advanced than mine over here in NW GA. Nice job on everything!

Looks really nice. I really like the cage you have around your corn. I think I'm going to have to build one of those for my corn and beans. Is there a link to where you got the instructions and is it easy to get into the corn and beans with it on?

bnoles: Thanks for the comment

lalawson: The cage is just made out of PVC and wrapped with a plastic fence. The fence can open on both ends and the PVC slips into larger PVC pipe which can be remove with ease. I made that to keep our dogs from digging in the SFG. As for the corn, I just planted the corn and then put tomato cages on top of them. The corn grows through the tomato cage for support to protect from wind knocking them down. The Pole Beans are growing on a concrete wire trellis at one end of the SFG.

Thanks,
NAR

NAR....You've got a great looking garden. Quite a nice zuke for the harvest. I'm sure you'll be eating good this season.

We left to go camping this weekend and nothing was ready to be picked from the garden. Two days later we came back to find these 2 squash hiding in the garden. The one on the left needed to be picked sooner, but with all the rain we have been getting the garden is just exploding with growth.

Also one of our Sun Flowers opened up while we were gone. You can see the top of the trellis which is at 6.5 feet.
