Hi Pol,
Welcome to the site .
Have you got the book mentioned in my strap lines .. ( it helps for all of us to be singing off the same song sheet .)
Do you have any experience of gardening or even square foot gardening ?

Are you aiming to have a family type veg garden ?
Any ideas as to what you want ot grow ?
Look up the compost threads and start making your own as soon as possible for it is the best source of compost rather than all the garden centre stuff which most folk use initially to get things going.

Vermiculite
" Keyline builders " chain inc " T&P " sell it about £20 inc vat for 100 litres ( 6 kg or so )
Just over 2/3 of a bag is good for a 4x4 foot 6 inch deep bed .

You're in for a steep learning curve as things run quite different to normal UK gardening practices , getting yourself to accept what's in Mel's book is one of the big problems people who have previously gardened have.

The good thing is no matter what your soil type is it does not matter , because you won't be using it .
Instead you'll make your own soil less almost pH nutral growth medium that is absolutley brilliant for growing almost all UK growable veg and salad crops.

It's also good for growing most flowers except those that love lime .
