My Butternuts are in Trouble

My butternut squash plants are in trouble. The leaves are dying. It starts at the outer edge of the leaf the works its way up the leaf until the stem turns yellowish and shrivels up. New growth is fine. Most of the plants have this problem. I am just guessing here, but is this heat related? Any advise?
Also noted some bright yellowish spots on some other leaves. The seed came from store bought squash so am guessing that it wasn't the best quality of seed.

From the depths of my memories of growing butternut squash in inland SanDeigo.... sounds like powdery mildew. Mostly you just hope it will out grow it. I seem to recall various baking soda sprays and some one here uses neem as well.
Could you post a picture? I bet some other southern gardeners will recognize what is happening and chime in then.

Have you checked for squash bugs? This sounds like what happened to my pumpkin plants when I had a bad invasion of squash bugs. right now, my butternuts wilt a bit during the day and perk up in the evening when it cools down as do the rest of my squash.
