Additional Fertilizer???

Post  metweezer on 5/29/2013, 2:31 pm

I had Mel's mix shipped in by UPS and wonder if I will need any additional fertilizer (Miracle Grow) during the growing season or will his compost, which is included in his mix, be enough fertilizer.

If you feel you need to add anything to give the prepackaged Mel's mix a boost, compost is the way to go. Do you have the All New Square Foot Gardening book yet? Mel's recommendation is to add homemade compost or a compost blend... IT is a certainty that Miracle-gro mix is not compost.

I think that you should be fine with not adding anything to it...it is made by Mel right cant go wrong there...but if you do see that your plants look a little down add some compost around the plant and scratch it in gently. Good luck to you!! And please let us know how well it grow I have considering just ordering Mel mix or making a trip to UT to get some not sure if it would be cheapest way to go though...

I paid 40.00 to ship 4 bags. Hopefully it will be available closer to my home here in L.I. next year.
