N&C Midwest - How's your weather?

Post  Goosegirl on 5/31/2013, 7:16 am

Well, so far, I have only had one week of watering my garden, and that was at least 3 weeks ago. I feel like I have become Boffer's neighbor in the PNW! Our late spring is also proving to be an unusually cool and wet spring, so I may actually get some peas from my spring planting. Sunday is supposed to be Partly Cloudy, which will make it the sunniest, driest day of the forecast, before the next round of T-storms hit.

My onions and peas are loving this, the tomatoes - not so much! Will have to watch for any diseases that thrive in these cool, wet conditions.

GG

PS - the rain is making it very hard to get motivated to go out and build my new compost bin! Going to make a Berkeley station - 2 compartment bin side by side for containing and turning the hot compost pile.

I can sympathize with you.
We are just outside of KC MO and my garden is swimming! I have not been able to get the rest of my seeds in because it is just plain mud out there. I have not been in it since this last 6 inches has dumped in it. I put straw between my boxes but it is still just too wet to even walk on that. We need rain but this is way way too much.

We are finally getting some rain! Everything is doing well except that I lost my hot banana pepper to frost last week but replanted yesterday before rain last evening.

Our rain has been pretty steady for the last 2+ weeks. It could be worse, as only 15 miles from here, just across the state line, several of my friends have 2-3 feet of water in their basements. A few days ago in one of the storms they got 5" of rain that day, and the ground was already saturated. Add that to malfunctioning sump pumps and you have disaster!

A very thankful GG

PS - Since it is raining again today, I am laying on the sofa reading the ANSFG 2nd Edition on my Nook.

Sure tired of windy conditions today gusting to 30mph. Yesterday was windy too and tough making Mel's mix in little buckets to prevent materials from blowing away... ridiculous. My little garden seat cushion blew away never to be found. Still have plants on the dining room table, waiting for the wind to calm down..Monday and the rest of the week suppose to be gorgeous. Probably spend Monday transplanting and direct sewing everything else. Such a late beginning between weather and personal delays.

Currently in a doozy of a T-storm.  Southern end of the county is in a flashflood warning until noon.  Thunder is a constant roll with no breaks between and the lightning looks like someone turned on a strobe light.  Will be an interesting day.

lol!  Camp,  No snow!

Central Valley of California:  100's with cool spells of high 90's.  Light curtain of humidity, currently.  Unhealthy air pollution.

We didn't have to water much until a couple of weeks ago when it climbed into the 90s.

Even when we hit 90's we were still having enough ThunderBumpers that we still did not have to water.  I have only watered my garden once in the last 2 months!

Yesterday it rained again.  I had watered the day before in the morning, which I don't like to do, but it hadn't been watered for 2 and a half days.  I live in an apartment building where we have individual garden plots.  Last year I invested in two 4X4 cedar raised beds and I am loving them!  I have room for another one in my plot but didn't want to spend the money this year.  I moved to Chardon, Ohio in 2009 and we get a lot more snow than other areas of NE Ohio, and it seems, more rain.
