Another Newbie from Western New York

Post  ryanpnf on 6/4/2013, 6:26 pm

I just wanted to say hi and introduce myself. My wife and I have never gardened, but wanted to start something to show our children veggies don't come from Wegmans (Local Grocery store) among other things. My wife read the book previously and insisted I do all (well, 85%) of the hard labor. I needed to read some of the book as I needed to figure out what I needed to do and found it rather interesting.
We currently have 2 4x4 beds with a bunch of stuff planted. As neither of us know what we are doing, I was looking for additional guidance on planting and care for what we planted and stumbled on this site. I will be using this as a resource to figure stuff out and hopefully share some success stories of our own.
I have a lot in common with Mel as I am an Engineer, and I like to re-purpose as much as possible. So far, the only items we had to purchase for this season were seeds, a few plants and the parts to make the Mel's Mix. Things are going well so far and seem to be having some luck with everything at least growing.

glad you\'re here ryanpnf glad you\'re here

Having never gardened is actually a good thing for starting out with SFG's. You don't have to re-learn anything! Have fun and build some memories with the kiddos!

to the forum. I agree that having never gardened before, you are starting out right. Less work, less watering, more fun with SFG.

We're always willing to answer questions so don't be shy. There is never a stupid question so ask whatever you like.

glad you\'re here please ask question. I started my garden right after I had my first child. He is six now and loves to garden. Enjoy the wonderful experiences that gardening will bring you and your family.
