When I read my fist SFG book I was excited, so excited I had to get the 2nd book.
This past winter and early spring I just about wore myself out trying to put it all together, you know the drill. finding everything needed, etc etc.
Well time has come to disclose IT WORKS
I am going to convert all my beds, 4 of them, and give lots of room to up coming seasons plants.
Even a large cold frame that will take me right up to winter...

Kohlrabi is amazing, also delicious in many ways




Thanks to all who gave me much info to get this far, I hope to be able to repay sometime

Outstanding Jimmy cee.
Your gorgeous pictures and your enthusiasm made me smile. It is such a kick when things are going this well. Those kohlrabi pictures could be featured on a seed packet. Well done!

OMG! Beautiful! SFG is great, but kudos to you for doing all the work!

I haven't been able to get my kohlrabi to round up so I end up eating the leaves. What kind of kohlrabi did you grow?

My kohlrabi leaves are huge; still have another few weeks before I harvest them but I'm not seeing them round up yet. This is my first try at them.

Excellent job Jimmy, both on the garden and the pictures. Much like yourself, I have had tremendous success with my first year and will also be expanding my SFG's. I am already planning my new layout for when the current season is finished. Right now I am working hard on making lots of homemade compost for the event.

Cut the core out of a white Dutch cabbage and nibble the hard white of the core .. very similar to that as it is the same family of brassica ( I think ) .

This kohlrabi is Grand Duke from Twileys seed catalog, I knew absolutely nothing about them except I was fascinated by a video on you tube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TAVLYZBIKsw

The seeds seem to be very eager to germinate and grow....

Frenchbean...I tried one from our local farm store, tasted like a toss between an radish and cabbage.
It was a very delicious taste to me.

Camprn..Never entered my mind, however I surely would have entered it in the fair, ours isnt till August and Sept. Maybe I'll have something else..The guys I once hung out with at toity toid and toid (brooklyn slang) would never believe this is me...banjo's and farming...

I bet kohlrabi would make a delicious cole slaw

I wonder if you can grow more kohlrabi (after a good addition of compost to your MM) for the fair...

Banjos and farming go well together, like peas and carrots...

Don't you think the hot weather would be detrimental to it's growth ?
I do have a few smaller plants in the ground now, maybe I'll cover them in hot weather,
If they become as nice as the ones I just picked, they surely will be entered...

I just completed my cold frame conversion.
Removed all soil and added 8 inches of the wonderful Mel's Mix.
In the process now of seeding, planting, and experimenting with this.
Should prove to be a very interesting fall season for me, this past spring and summer surely was..


Some of the raised bed items...Italian parsley

Tomatoes trimmed to prevent blight..(works for me)

Wow!  Nice cold frame...you'll love it!  I don't have an official one but I put windows on the boxes with sunken beds and it works much the same way.  I was harvesting into Feb last year but it finally got too dangerous to go out there on the ice topped snow so I quit.

Look at all your maters!  What kind are they?  They look just like my Supersonics, except mine don't have the leaves removed.

Thanks alot
I made it last fall, had a lot of wood hanging around from previous projects.
Took about 3 months as I don't work fast any more, ( really never did )
Fortunately I had a raised bed with  1/4 inch angle pounded 4 feet into the ground,
I used these for anchors on my raised beds, then just added a 7 foot long upper portion
that became my cold frame, I have planted a whole bunch of stuff yesterday.
Seeds and plants together to see which works best.
I'll take pics as growth progresses.
