Cross pollinating summer squashes

Post  sanderson on 6/6/2013, 12:03 pm

The zucchini and yellow straight necks are "passing ships." Example, the zucchinis have lots of female flowers with the fruits failing at some point. [I just trim and saute the failed fruits] The yellow squash will have only males pollinating. Then they flip and produce the other sex flower. Can I intentionally cross pollinate in order to get some squash to really mature? I am NOT saving any seeds.

Older blogs discussed cucumbers and melons.

Yes that will work, as long as both are the same species (e.g.-C. Pepo) which is most likely the case. And since you're not saving seeds you don't care about the genetics of the seeds.
