See my pics

Post  mckr3441 on 4/23/2010, 3:05 pm

I just put a bunch of pictures out in the Gallery. See them in my Personnal Album: mckr3441. I gave each picture a cool name then added some text to give some background.

After you view them, make an album of your own so that we all can go there and drool! Let us know when you start your album and/or add new pics. Now that most of us have at least started seedlings (I know, some of us are already eating from the garden!) the FUN BEGINS!

Can anyone beat HappyFrog with the number of plants she has already planted? I know I can't! I'd have to rent space .

Have a happy gardening day.

Hey Claire

Love your pictures.....they're great! I really like the idea of a small "trial" box on wheels to give those questionable veggies a try. Never thunk it!! But I may do that....having 3 kids with very different tastes, I hesitate to plant too much if it will go to waste. I will eat anything and I love veggies (take my greens over fruit any day !) so it's my picky kids and hubby I worry about.

Thanks for sharing - I love to see what other people do.

Great pictures Claire! I love the idea of putting the box on wheels. I toyed with this idea myself for my TT SFG. I'm new to this house, so I'm not exactly sure what area of my property gets the most full sun. If I had it on wheels I could move it around myself.

Hmmm... The question is, how do I get the wheels on my existing TT that's already planted?

Just like you'd get a tire changed. Use blocks. Lift and block p the front in a few different places to give it many support points. Put the front wheels on. Keep itblocked for support, and do the same to the back. Then put the wheels on. Wheels are a wonderful idea.

The only problem with that idea is that my SFG is on legs, like a table.

#1: It looks awesome. Putting wheels on that would be very cool--but it already looks very cool. I wish mine looked that nice. Smile

#2: Use the same "block" idea. Use something taller to get up and under the side--perhaps a table, perhaps a stack of something--really anything. If you have a table, you could angle it under a side and put blocks on the table--or if the table is taller, just lift it onto the edge of the table.

Claire, I loved your album!

Post  LindainWarwickNY on 5/3/2010, 12:24 am

The colors of your flower bed are so vibrant. I really loved it! Your "old" quilt is to die for! It's so pretty! Are you sure you want to share it with your plants? Hee hee! I'm really glad your showed your process for mixing Mel's mix because I have been having anxiety attacks about how to go about it. The peat moss we got are in huge compacted cubes. Husband kept telling me that we would not have to mix it all at once, but I was still trying to figure out how to do it. Some have used tarps to do it on, some have used children's wading pools, husband was suggesting our wheel barrel so we could mix smaller amounts in it and then dump it into the box.

We haven't got everything figured out yet. I know I need to put black plastic down in my large flower bed area so that I can sweep up the locust blossoms when they go flying in the wind. I know I am going to have some shrubs growing along the edge of my garden area next to the fence that surrounds it and put the boxes somewhere in the middle of it.

I just last night ordered a bunch of cute items I am going to put in the garden area, so I have to be mindful of where those items will go, so after all of those steps we need to just bite the bullet and do it!

We do have to put the box together that we just got from Lowe's. Maybe husband will do that for me tomorrow. When it comes to making a grid, did you order one from here or make it yourself. If you made it yourself, what did you use?

I'm really appreciating all of the photos posted here because each album is teaching me so much!

I really loved that your made a table top garden for your neighbors! Totally awesome and kind of you!

Re: See my pics

Oh my! So many nice compliments. Thank you all very much!

The quilt is keeping the frost off so far. It's an oldie, well beyond bedroom use. So I've recycled it to the garden. I like it there, too!

Blackrose, we had to do "wagon repair" to the box on wheels when we brought it out this spring as one of the wheels came off. I added a picture to my gallery on Apr. 23. If you haven't seen it yet, take a look at how we propped it up. You would need something much higher but I'm sure it can be done.

Linda, how are your garden plans coming? Have you found a place for your box yet? The picture of us mixing the Mel's Mix was taken last year when we mixed a huge batch. This year I am doing it on a much smaller scale. I use a 2 quart plastic pitcher. One pitcher of this; one pitcher of that. Mix in big bucket. Add a pitcher full of product #3. Mix. And so on. After all five or so ingredients are mixed for the blended compost I pour the bucket full into the big garbage can I use to store the compost in. Then I make the Mel's Mix in a similar way.

This is good for smaller batches as it is time consuming. I, however, love to play in dirt so I consider this my quiet time "therapy".

Thanks all, for looking at my pictures and for the very nice comments. I'll post more pictures as there are things to look at. Right now things are still pretty bare!
