New SFG in a Baltimore community

Post  sfg4uKim on 6/8/2013, 8:19 pm

Hey All!

Just got back from teaching a class and helping install a brand new SFG in a small community garden in Baltimore City today.

It was kinda sad though . . .

A couple months ago the mayor came out, made a big deal out of them tearing down an abandoned row home for this garden. To the right of this building, the neighbors had already put in a few raised beds.

Well, WEEKS after the ceremony and everyone going away, they decimated the existing garden tearing down the building without the courtesy of letting the residents know when they were coming so that the beds could be moved.

THEN in their brilliance, they seeded the area with grass and laid down straw. Not AT ALL taking into account the residents' wishes.

Don't get me wrong, I'm GLAD they're working to improve the City, but come on, do it wisely. So little communication and so much wasted effort.

Rant done . . . maybe. I'm on steroids for my poison ivy so I'm roid raging. Twisted Evil Twisted Evil Twisted Evil

Across the street from the garden . . .

Post  sfg4uKim on 6/9/2013, 3:37 pm

Across the street from the garden two of the neighbors have put a tremendous amount of love into this grouping of flower/edible pots. I give them a LOT of credit since the adjoining house (to the left) is boarded up.
