I think I found the thief.

Post  johnp on 7/15/2013, 11:16 am

About two weeks ago I noticed that two pimentos were turning red so the next day I went to pick and found quarter size holes in each one and the insides removed. We had recently seen a squirrel in the yard so I put chicken wire around the box. The next day I went to pick tomatoes and found three of the best were eaten the same way. Stumped. Am I going to cover the whole garden? Later I walked outside to call the dogs and saw a medium sized light gray slim bird with a long beak walking around the top of the hot tub cover. I didn't think anything about it except I have two cherry tomatoes in pots right next to the tub ( my hail emergency plants). When I got my dogs I noticed two cherries on the ground with the same holes in them. I think I found the suspect. Now we are netting all the tomatoes and peppers which is a real pain.

Sounds like that should work. If not, maybe try using a mockup/carving of predators like a hawk or owl above or near the garden.
