PNW: Clark County Food Bank Gleaning Program

Here's an easy way to donate extra produce from your garden. There's now a drop-off for the Clark County Food Bank, in partnership with the Vancouver Farmers Market, at the corner of 6th and Esther every Sunday from 12-3.  You can bring your food from home, or buy extra while at the market to donate.

Gwen...Have you heard yet, if this will be supported again this year. I a couple of miles away from the Food Bank and was able to tour their kitchen/warehouse at the grand opening. I plan to give my extra food to family and friends, then reach out from there. I wanted to attend the opening weekend for the Farmers Market last weekend, but had other stuff going on.  Sad  Thanks.

Very nice idea. Our food banks, or the equivalent, here are all associated with religious organizations, so it's a little forbidding to be involved with if you're not the right religion or don't want to join up on the spot.

Hi EatYourVeggies,

Opening weekend of the Vancouver Farmers Market was actually two weekends ago: March 15-16. I was going to attend after the St. Paddy's for kids event at Shorty's that same weekend, since I'd already be half way there and it was a beautiful day, but stayed at Shorty's longer than anticipated.

I checked out both the Farmers Market website, and the Clark County Food Bank website and got no answers. So I called the CCFB and someone in charge of the gleaning program is supposed to get back to me. So we'll see.

Okay, so I got my return phone call from the CCFB.  The answer is yes, they will be continuing their cooperation with the Vancouver Farmers Market, but will not set up a donation site there until probably sometime in June when there is more produce available from the vendors.

Of course, you don't have to wait until then to donate.  See their website for more info:
