I canned some fresh picked fig jam

Post  bnoles on 7/17/2013, 4:59 pm

I was very fortunate to get fresh on the tree figs this morning from my neighbor.  You can see the post and picture of the harvest in this thread.

http://squarefoot.creatingforum.com/t16304-it-pays-to-be-a-good-neighbor#171271

After taking care of morning business and my after lunch nap, I hit the kitchen and made some jam of my prized find.

Here are a few pictures of the process.

Two quarts pealed and coarsely mashed.

Stewing in the pot with 6 cups of sugar, mashing them along the way.

Here is what  I ended up with.  The pint jar goes in the fridge for biscuits over the next several weeks.  YUM!

Wow Bob, those sure look wonderful!  I haven't had fresh figs in a whole lot of years.  I don't think I ever had fig jam.  I will have to try that sometime.  Your sure got those picked and preserved fast!
