Mid-At: Aug 2013 - Stay safe!

Post  sfg4uKim on 8/1/2013, 8:52 pm

It has NOT been easy gardening since I broke my hand three + weeks ago.  Although I didn't do this in the garden, whe do YOU do to stay safe in the garden?

The story is below the pics.

My 14 YO Beagle (Scout) fell down the stairs (arthritis is a bear and the doggie dementia don't help).  I caught  him but managed to get a spiral fracture in my outer hand.  The dog is fine.

The hand specialist said the fingers & wrist are NOT broken, but they hurt more.  The outer two fingers are VERY swollen (I can't bend them) and I got a small bug bite on my wrist bone (just where the metal bar of the brace rubs).  OUCH!

SOOOOOO let's be careful out there.

Get Well Kim !

Post  llama momma on 8/3/2013, 6:19 am

Kim - Best Wishes for very fast healing. I Hope you can be patient during this time of healing. There is really no good time for this to happen.  I understand what its like to be reminded constantly that you can't use that hand like before.  We need our hands for nearly everything!  I try to deal with the restrictions of arthritis in both hands. At some point if you are given exercises for the hand, don't skip them!

Mid-Atl. - 9/23/13 Broken hand update

Post  sfg4uKim on 9/23/2013, 6:14 pm

It's been a long haul but with physical therapy twice a week I'm probably 80% back.  This weekend I was finally able to hold a shovel and even pull some weeds - about 2 hours on Friday and another hour today.

Shovel?  What would I be doing with a shovel?  Getting rid of some day lilies and weeds in preparation for a medicinal herb garden.  I'll be wrestling with an old rose bush later in the week.

So after this week I get to cut down to PT once a week!

Hi Kim,
I am so happy that your hand is healing properly.
The PT is great for the healing.
In no time you will be able to do everything...
