Hi from Down Under

Post  Dash on 8/7/2013, 11:13 pm

Hi Everyone,

My name's Kate and I'm from New South Wales in Australia. My username Dash refers to my destructive dog who seems to like figuring out ways to get into my fenced veggie patch.

I recently stumbled across Mel's book in the library and thought his concepts sounded pretty interesting and worth a shot. This coming spring will be my first go at trialling the square foot (or metre here) method. I'm looking forward to seeing my familys produce flourish but also to see my daughter's gardening interest grow.

I look forward to meeting you all around the traps and best of luck on your patches Smile

Welcome Dash! Hope you enjoy the forums.

I too have a destructive dog. She loves to jump up on the retaining wall that hosts a foot or so width of garden before the hill behind the house starts its steep rise. Every access to it is blocked by a mess of upturned pots crowding out space between the pots and bed plantings there, but she doesn't mind. She's happy to just step on everything! This is the same dog that chews holes in the patio deck and chews the siding off the house.

Hope she doesn't ruin everything! I'm already down a few marigold plants and squash leaves. Good luck with keeping your own little devil in check!

Welcome to the Forum, Dash! glad you\'re here

You're starting off right with having read the book.  It would be a good investment to go ahead and buy a copy (used off the Internet?) because you will probably refer to it over and over as you get going.  There are several Forum members down your way.

As a Newbie, I think this is an excellent place to share experiences and get help, or just reassurance.  Don't forget to take photos to share, and as a personal recommendation, keep a journal of your SMG experience. Again, Welcome.

Thank you for the warm welcome Smile I can't wait to get planting - which hopefully will be this weekend. I have 7 beds around my house all of different sizes. I plan to plant out three beds using the SFG techniques and 4 have already been planted with herbs, vegetables and my daughters garden.

See you along the way.

glad you\'re here  i'm so glad you found us. We love to hear from our fellow gardeners in the Southern Hemisphere as the pictures from your spring and summer gardens give us a pick me up during our cold snowy winters.

Kay
