How is vinegar made from what i have read 5% alcohol and then mother of vinegar will turn alcohol into vinegar. From my experience pumpkin and tomato are a good nutrient for sugar to ferment into alcohol grapes have nutrient and may ferment without nutrient apple cider is another option or a grain malted and then fermented then turned to vinegar . What is a good home made vinegar..

Interesting question. I Googled and found this article. If what the article stated is true, each type of vinegar (wine, apple, etc.) has a separate Mother to use. Maybe other members can share their experiences.
