Re: Please Welcome Goosegirl!

Post  Goosegirl on 8/20/2013, 10:27 pm

Thanks all!  I will try to do my best for all of you.  Most of you have been 'listening' to me blab for the last few years, but for those who don't know me, let me blab some more.

My name is Teresa and I am a transplant to the Northern and Central Midwest from California.  I have to say that since being in South Dakota I have gotten lazy about watering because for so much of the summer we can rely(?) on T-storms to give us most of the water we need.  I was not used to that, as the area I came from basically had 2 seasons: Cold & Wet, then Hot & Dry, each approximately 6 months long.  Here, we have 4:  Beginning of Winter, Dang Cold Winter, End of Winter, Summer.  Since this is a large region with MANY differing climates, I will do my best to help out in all of the variances.

My first garden memory is helping Dad set up a strawberry pyramid in the back yard.  I was 4 and I was hooked!  Fast-forward several decades, and I discover ANSFG in Menard's when I needed something to read while waiting for my car to be repaired.  Again I was hooked.  Unfortunately it was December in SD - season:  Dang Cold Winter.  But I knew this was the method that could help me clean up my garden and make it workable, not just work.  So I started plotting, planning, and storing up CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP construction materials to build boxes if the snow would ever melt.  3 years and 11 boxes later, it is still working.  I will never step out of the box(es) again!

Thank you all for letting me experience this, and I will try not to scare or scar any of you!

I have read many of your posts and you seem to be very knowledgeable.
Thank you for doing this; it takes a special person IMO.

Here is a quote from RoOsTeR from the recent call for Regional Hosts

@RoOsTeR wrote:
Some typical Regional Host duties:
-Regional Hosts will be our welcoming committee, welcoming new members and helping direct to the proper regional forum.
-Hosts will work together on putting together Rookie Topics. Hosts can choose to write all the topics, or recruit participation from forum members, or combination.
-Hosts will help maintain and moderate all regional forums.
-Hosts will help answer questions, and help present proper information on the SFG method.
-Hosts will be active members and participate in day to day activities, not only on the open forum, but in the regions as well.
What scares me the most is the Rookie Topics.  Never been a writer.  Blabber, yes.  Writer?  NO!

Welcome from a very different part of the region! Central OH where we have several seasons; really cold or not winter, lovely spring, hot spring wet spring or no spring at all, hot humid summer, or cool wet summer, and our one reliable season, lovely fall.

Definitely different part of the region!  I will take our shorter growing season along with the 3 Phases of Winter over your humidity!  We do get a bit humid here throughout summer, but nothing horrible - except to my hair afro.
