Missing my SFG

Post  ericam on 11/26/2013, 4:17 am

Hi everyone,

Sorry I've been AWOL for a while now, it's been a big year!

In March of this year we decided that we wanted to get out of Sydney and move to the country and so followed a busy few months, getting our house on the market and then packing and moving to a little country town 4 1/2 hours drive out of Sydney. We moved in June and it has taken us a while to settle in but we are loving being in the country. The only negative was that I had to leave my SFG behind and I haven't set one up here yet. Sad

The cool thing is that the people who bought our house were interested in the garden so I left them the SFG book and some seeds that I knew I wouldn't use and I recently heard from my old neighbour that the new people are keeping the garden going. Not sure whether she's following the SFG method but still it's nice to know that all my effort in setting up the garden wasn't wasted!

So no vege garden for me right now but we bought a 1.3 acre block so I will have plenty of room for a lot more garden space than I had previously. I've already got the location picked out, just have to start designing how to lay out the beds and whether I have to fully enclose to keep roos and rabbits out!

Hi Erica, Looks like you and I will be online about the same time for a few months. I couldn't stand not having anything to grow, so I have put some seeds in some buckets. I'll see what grows. Big delay on moving to permanent house. Will probably be done in Aug while I'm back in the States.

Me too... I am missing the garden, so I put some Mel's Mix in a container and planted Cilantro and Parsley.... might even throw a grow light on it.

Erica, what do roos eat from the garden? I imagine if they wander through, that alone must be pretty bad!

Kay, you aren't in the States right now?

How nice that you efforts are not completely wasted. I hope you enjoy the anticipation of your new gardens. It will give you incentive to get settled in.
Enjoy the journey. Smile

Well they don't really wander, they hop with giant clodhopper feet so that would be a problem to start with but I think they will eat anything!

Not sure if they'll be a problem, we're a bit high on the hill and there are dogs next door and across the road so we haven't seen any at our house. Hubby saw one hop down the road one night but that's it so maybe I won't have to worry about it.
