Pallet potting bench!

Post  pattipan on 4/26/2010, 5:41 pm

This is so cool!!! I am definitely gonna have one of these next spring...maybe this summer after DH builds the trellises -- ha! I'm sure he likes to build things and if it's thrifty and cheap, he likes it even more.

There's more about it on this blog:

Now THAT is really cool... and it doesn't look too difficult to build! There's someone just down the street from me who has a bunch of pallets to give away!

Wow! I really like that. And I have four odd-sized pallets just waiting for something to be done to them. Ah heck. Another garden project waiting in the wings. This really is addictive.

Neat!!! I have some pallets I could use....although, they are holding some boxes in the basement, just in case (God forbid) we had a basement flooding....hm, I'm so torn. LOLOL

Great idea, but I would recommend more nails in the side boards.

I think I can get a couple pallets, too!

Pattipan's Pallet Potting Bench!

Post  pattipan on 4/29/2010, 7:49 pm

The only thing DH had to buy was the screws to attach the legs...which are leftover 2" x 4"s from another project. I quickly plopped some things on it for a photo. What a back saver this is going to be for me! Eventually it will go against the house under the eaves, but we have to move a bush first.

Cool!

Post  miinva on 4/30/2010, 1:16 am

That's really cool! Very Happy My dad built a table for our shed out of a door he salvaged at the dump. It's one of those sturdy metal ones, so it makes a great table!

I thought since everyone is out there scrounging pallets for compost bins, I would grave dig this post in case anyone could get an extra pallet and needed one of these. Smile

It has been such a back saver for me!! We actually left it where you see it and it was outside all winter. The top warped a little, but it's good for another year or two. And those narrow "shelves" are perfect for the greenhouse flats! One thing you'll want to invest in is a whisk broom. Any overflows of Mel's Mix get swept right back into the bucket. Very Happy

When you posted this originally Pattipan I showed hubby hoping he would build me one. But he is a "woodworker" and he does not get the charm in it that I see and love. He took an old desk and make me a work area in the sun room, and it's lovely don't get me wrong, but it wasn't this cute little thing.

If I asked him to build me something normally he would be right on it....but this, he just looks at me funny. I may have to do it myself. LOL

I am sure glad to see this idea. Never in a million years would this have occurred to me as a use for pallets! I was thinking of making a potting bench, but (Like I usually do) I have been over thinking it WAY too much and was over designing the darn thing. This will be perfect for my needs!

Absolutely love this idea. I rescued 2 pallets from my neighbors trash last year but did not really know what I would do with them. Now I know!

My "new" potting bench! bounce My husband was able to get the pallets from work for free. I went and bought a couple of 2x4's, cut them down to size and put it together. I made the back higher because eventually I want to add a couple little shelves.

I love it! What type of companies have pallets with boards that close together? I've been looking with no success.

Thanks everyone Smile My husband works for the automotive industry. They ship rolls of rubber on these pallets for the water shield in the vehicle doors. I used this same type of pallet to make our compost bins last year.

Thank you. I'll check around. I use pallets for my compost bins too and I have to try to keep the compost away from the sides so it doesn't get in the wood where I can't get to it.
