New potting bench

Post  johnp on 12/5/2013, 3:31 pm

I got and add in the mail over the weekend from Harbor  Freight Tools. Normally I don't buy stuff from them because it doesn't hold up very well. They have a work bench on sale until the end of the month for almost one half off, around $130.00. I went and looked at it and was pretty surprised as it is very sturdy. I bought one and just finished putting it together with no problems. I put a galv. sheet metal top over It to protect from moisture.  Perfect five ft. by 20 inch top with four drawers and a shelf underneath. I think it will make a great potting bench. I will put it in the greenhouse it we ever get rid of the snow and gets above 0 degrees F.

Something to look forward to, johnp. I expect many of us look at something and visualize using it for SFG. I do that when I sometimes go to a flea market.

I had a good bench for many years until it finally fell apart. We decided to replace it two years ago so I went to Ace hardware and bought their potting bench out of a catalog. It was delivered and I set it up. It turned out to be junk. All the boards warped and the slats on the sides fell out and on and on. This new bench is much sturdier and should last forever with the sheet metal top I put on it. I don't know what I am going to do with the vise that came with it, maybe I could crack walnuts or something.

Sounds great. I hope it lasts for years.

Your correct on that one boffer
This cold frame has 75 % materials I removed 40 years ago when I tore down an outdoor pantry and added a family room.
I have problems tossing anything out that may be used someday.
