Sorry -- I couldn't get the picture to slide down to add any text.
From the picture above I would bet the large flat yellow seed is the cubanelle pepper.
If I'm wrong then I apologize in advance.

Tumtum, like I posted above, look at the color.  I rechecked ALL my pepper seeds in the fridge and they are all yellow. Tomato seeds are NOT.
And T/Y llamamama for the photo.  See tumtum, the seeds are Yellow.

Your welcome quiltb-  when I was searching the net I can see how the confusion might happen, especially when I looked at greatly magnified pics of tomato seeds.  But in reality, the tomato seeds are much smaller than pepper seeds, and reconfirmed it when I checked the saved seeds in the fridge.

I got a question about Ray's seeds.  Are the cubanelle pepper seeds the same thing as sweet banana peppers? Anyone know for sure??  Thanks.

Cubanelles are bright red when ripe, but sweet.
Sweet Bananas are always yellow from young to harvest.

Sweet banana on the plant.

'delicious' variety seeds from Ray

Post  llama momma on 2/6/2014, 7:59 am

I'd love to see how all of us do with the tomato seeds.  'Delicious"  is the beefsteak variety that I assume all of us received.  When I looked it up several claims were made that this variety holds the world record for weight.  That is, seven pounds, my friends!  It is suppose to be easy to grow 1 and 2 pounders.  I'm looking forward to watching our forum member results.

Post  FamilyGardening on 2/16/2014, 12:26 am

the lettuce is up and growing under lights inside the house Smile so far so good!

a bit of info on Little Gem Lettuce .....33 days,    Open Pollinated

*English greengrocers offer this miniature green romaine with its blanched, thick heart as a gourmet treat. Heads are about 4 inches across and are prime eating from 4-6 inches tall.*
http://www.territorialseed.com/product/914/84

*Plants can be spaced 6 1/2 by 6 1/2 inches for maximum yields.* does this mean we plant 4 of these per square? or more then 4 per square....like 9 per square?...help...im not good at this part of it yet  Razz

Re: Free seeds 2014 from Ray at Praxxus (utube)

Post  llama momma on 2/16/2014, 4:24 am

The math part can be thought of like this,  Always start with 12.    Twelve divided by the spacing recommendation of 6 inches(I rounded it off) equals 2.  One more step, square that answer and think 2 times 2 equals 4.   Four is the final answer.  Four plants goes into that square.
Try another example using the space recommendation of say, 4 inches. Your answer should be
9 plants per square.

Back to Little Gem lettuce. My local Kroger supermarket had Little Gem lettuce.  They were all a good six inches tall and four inches wide just like it was described in the other post.  Seeing mature plants made it convenient to visualize planting 4 to a square and maybe squeeze a fifth one in the center.

I was wondering how folks have done with the free seeds. I was able to sprout a Cubanelle pepper and several beefsteak tomatoes. The Tendersweet carrots are so-so as directly sowed.

I tried some of his cucs, carrots, lettuces & tomatillow last year and got nada except for the tomatillos, which did VERY well considering I treated them poorly & I all but ignored them.

Since I had a few of his seeds left over, as well as some swapped ones, I thought I'd try tomatoes and lettuce again this year.  I got 1 tomato out of 5 seeds to sprout and none of the buttercrunch lettuce.

The only things I tried of his last year were the Cubanelle peppers and the Thassaloniki tomatoes and both did OK tho the Thassalonikis weren't very productive but I transplanted it in a rather sun and shady flower garden spot last year which I'm sure made a big difference in production.
This year I'll be doing Cubanelles again and his Boxcar Willie tomatoes.  I'm really hoping the Willies do great.
