Re: Senseless Banter...

I had a kindle fire 7-inch tablet for a while and found that unless I wanted the text very small (and I do NOT wear glasses), web sites tended to sprawl off the right side of the tablet so I would sometimes need to scroll right in order to read something like, say, the line you're reading now.

This does not happen with my mother's Samsung 10-inch Galaxy 2 tablet. That's heavier but gives a much better reading experience for the web. For books, a 7-incher is easier and ideal because it's so much lighter and less cumbersome in the hands. For movies, both large and small tablets are just fine.

I returned it. It was the old, first model Fire. Battery life wasn't too good, and it was hard to keep while feeling that the person who bought it for me had spent too much. So I got it charged back to her card and told her maybe we'd get another one some other time.

I like my Nexus 7 a lot. It's incredibly useful but it certainly doesn't replace my laptop.

So go! I'm outside most every day. My mother walks her dogs for an hour in freezing weather, and she's 70 years old. One of my neighbors is 88 and he gets out there too!

Re: Senseless Banter...

It's actually beautiful once you get out there. The hard part is making up your mind to get out there! Once you're out and moving, it's not bad at all.

At least if you can keep your fingers warm. Icy fingers are what will send me back inside.

Fog has a tranquil beauty of its own, and some of our coldest days are brilliantly sunny and look just like any spring day. I take the dogs down to the park, throw them their toy, and they have a great time chasing after it and trying to wrestle it from each other. They go drink from the pond and wade in it when the sprinting and tug-of-war overheats them even in sub-freezing temperatures. I find a place at a park bench with my giant insulated coffee mug and read my kindle. Sometimes I can even get two or three paragraphs read before the dogs are back giving me the eyeball treatment so I'll get up and go throw their toy again. We all get some exercise and see some nature, breathe air fresher than what we have cooped up in the house with us, and wind up feeling livelier and in a better mood. I bundle myself up and stay out for about an hour at a time. It's the best part of the day. Sometimes I even kid myself I might have come back an ounce or two lighter.

This was my mantra when I had to go to hockey practice at 9 pm and I knew it would be warmer outside of the rink.  Shocked What a Face

Mark
I use to love the cold, found it invigorating until hand arthritis kicked in.  Cold severely aggravates pain to new tolerance levels I suppose but in doing so tests the fun of being outside too.  So I generally take the easy way out and try to avoid frigid temps anymore.  Oh well.

That's a shame if your health curtails it. My sympathies. I'm getting arthritis, just a bit, in a couple of knuckles too.

Re Super Bowl: Lucky second half turned out a bit boring, as my mom who's just recovering from a heart attack could watch it!  Great game for us Pacific Northwesterners, though.  Nonna

I'm still in shock!  It wasn't until the middle of the fourth quarter that I finally could believe  that we were going to win.  It was an exciting game for the PNW, but I bet it was a boring game for most of the country.

I thought the last commercial was the best: the Budweiser puppy who wanted to be pals with the Clydesdales.  I wonder why they didn't use their usual Dalmatian?
