Re: Senseless Banter...

There was supposed to be an update last night on the news, but unfortunately our state had a much worse black eye down in Chattanooga.

I think there was supposed to be a kickstarter campaign in the works to help this man recoup what he lost in the value of his plants, but of course, that will not make several dozen mature tomato plants return this season.

The police believe it was done by multiple perps in the apartment complex just across the RR tracks from this man's property.  They believe the tomatoes would be re-sold, since there were at least 75 pounds.

It really makes our losing maybe 20 pounds of vegetables to deer and other wildlife.  I want to know what that guy did to have such beautiful plants, because our 30-something tomato plants we are growing for other family members are going dormant in this heat.  Only the Mortgage Lifters that are growing in the ground in a foot of 100% compost are faring well.  Obviously, containers (even self-watering) were never meant to grow vegetables in this extreme heat.

It certainly is difficult growing them in containers in our heat. They grow much more slowly than those planted in beds. And those planted in shallower beds do more poorly than those planted in deeper beds.

Putting together some kind of community effort or kickstarter campaign to rebuild this fellow's tomato garden would be a wonderful thing to do.

Unfortunately, it would be almost impossible to keep out the malefactors once again after everything was replanted. Once they figure they've found a good idea that works, they'll be back.

Wink   Oh botheration my dear ... thou hast formed the incorrect opinion of myself , a terminological inexactitude to be honest .

I'm a Yorkshire man born & bred , strong in the arm & thick in the head , a short arms and deep pockets type of Yorkshire man who speaks real English Queens English .

I must confess that the Americaneese version of English is a trial by torture sometimes .

I wanted to do a MOOC in the arena of advanced electronic circuit design , but found I had to give it up after five sessions as I could not relate to the bullship being spouted during the course.
It bore little or no relation to quality English .   Laughing

Hate the fools who stole the tomatoes and loved Plantoid's revealing his heritage.  This forum is so terrific!  World wide.

I hope the old man's tomato loss gets some reprieve from good hearted folks in the area.

Plantoid
That was good! I had a much needed laugh.

Razed Beds,
I'm not sure how far this old gent is from you but he would probably appreciate your company about now. He might also divulge his secrets for such fine tomatoes plants.
My parents are in Crossville Tn, they used to have a neighbor that gardened in a empty lot he had. It was always amazing what he produced from it. He generously shared his produce for some of Dad's grapes. He probably got the better deal as he made wine from the grapes.
I am always amazed at what grows in the Tn clay.

The randomness of this thread is what makes it fun.

On this forum, CI usually means a SFG Certified Instructor.

In cop land, CI means Confidential Informant.

In computer geek land, CI means Continuous Integration.

Do one of those match the context in which you found it?

DomainZone10 said she introduced herself as a CI when visiting the old fellow.  Doesn't seem to match definitions, although it could be certified instructor.

Yes, Donna is a Certified Instructor.

Just like your user name is blue for being a Regional Host , Donna's user name is green because she's a Certified Instructor. Towards the bottom of the home page, you can see the legend that correlates color with title.

Plantoid, sorry for misplacing you. So you are eligible to play cricket for Yorkshire then?

boffer,  Plantoid is a bit flowery there with his speech. I'll be Ok, I've got over my palpitations. Very Happy

In finacial terms .... Compound Interest
In your family planning  .......... an interruption of interest  Laughing

And often  in internet , political or political correctness terms a ... complete idiot.

Arragh cricket !
best described accurately by some one who I cant' recall as , " Organized loafing & round in itchy flannel  clothing ".
I detest it , but I did enjoy seeing a couple of seconds play of each Ozzie being out in the recent ashes game .

As some of you know we went on a six day holiday to North Wales & only came back on Thursday afternoon .

Here is a little ditty  (sorry I don't know who it's by ) that very accurately describes the event .

It rained and rained and rained and rained,
The average was well maintained;
And when the fields were simply bogs,
It started raining cats and dogs.
After a drought of half an hour,
There came a most refreshing shower;
And then the queerest thing of all,
A gentle rain began to fall.

Next day 'twas pretty fairly dry,
Save for a deluge from the sky.
This wetted people to the skin,
But after that the rain set in.
We wondered what's the next we'd get,
As sure as fate we got more wet.
But soon we'll have a change again,
And we shall have..... A drop of rain
