Help With My Book - Kindness and Kale

Post  sfg4uKim on 2/1/2014, 11:37 am

Hey Everyone!

I'm in the process of writing a book. The working title and subtitle are "Kindness and Kale: Improving the Lives of Others by Growing a Garden". It will hopefully inspire people to help others and encourage self-sufficiency and help people discover how to start their own garden-based giving program.

In addition to featuring a few individuals, businesses and organizations, I would like to collect several short "human interest" stories in the following areas:

* Did you start gardening to improve your health or that of your family? Was there a specific condition you felt would be helped by getting more organic veggies in your diet?

* Did you notice a friend or neighbor was having some financial difficulty and shared your harvest with them? Did you teach them how to start their own garden?

* Do you donate excess food to a food pantry or homeless shelter?

* Do you have a front yard garden where you invite your neighbors to grab what they want?

* Do you volunteer at a garden (nursing home, community, etc.) that helps people - as a part of horticultural therapy, feeds the hungry?

* Do you work with kid's gardening? Do you teach kids to garden? Your own or through a kid's gardening program?

* Are you a military veteran that has been helped by gardening? Or do you help with a veterans gardening program?

* Do you garden with a physical disability? Do you help others with disabilities adapt their gardens?

* Have you gone overseas to help with a garden program? How important was it to honor the local culture?

* Do you have insight as to how individuals, businesses or organizations can start a garden-based giving program? Are you familiar with how to fund raise for such a program?

* Have you ever done a crowd-funding program? If so, do you have hints for someone? Was it worth it? What are the pros & cons.

If you'd like to help, please send these little stories (1/2 - 1 page long) to sfgkimroman@yahoo.com. Please send your full name (and your Forum name) and let me know if you'd rather be listed by just your first name and last initial in the book.

P.S. I'm self-publishing via Kindle and hope to launch it around the end of February. I would like to have these stories by February 17th.

I have seen women looking at jewelry ads with a misty eye and one hand resting on the heart, and I only know what they're feeling because that's how I read the seed catalogs in January - Barbara Kingsolver - Animal, Vegetable, Miracle
