when to plant

Post  Americus Nation on 2/21/2014, 9:55 pm

I'm new to this and was wondering when I should start my seeds indoors?
Thanks

16 weeks before last frost sow onions and leeks, snap dragons, impatiens.
12 weeks before last frost sow brassicas.
6 weeks before last frost  sow the warm summer veggies.
Don't forget you will need to keep lights within 2" of the top of your seedlings.

Also try the garden calculators at the Old Farmer's Almanac or Johnny's Select Seeds websites.
Be prepared to do some research.

Here in South Louisiana the temperature the last few weeks have run in the 40's at night and 60-70's in the day.

My question is: I started some seeds indoors, but I don't have the nice grow lights or bright window seal. I have been keeping the plants on the stove at night, and putting them in the sun in the day. Will the seeds germinate and grow this way? They are getting plenty sunlight in the day.
