Math help need for HD "Mel Mix"

Post  Judy McConnell on Fri 28 Feb 2014 - 3:50

Two table tops going in this spring that are 2'x4'.  No time to make Mel's Mix for them, in time to plant, so will use Sq.Ft. Garden potting soil (Mel Mix) from HD.

Their site says the bags are 1.5 cu ft and the bags are 25"x17"x6".  This means to me that 3 bags should give me just enough to fill one table top, with the above dimensions, to almost 6" deep.

Is this close???

4 x 2 x 6" deep = 4 cu ft
4 cu ft / 1.5 cu ft per bag = 2.67 bags
So three bags will do the trick with a little left over.

Use all 3 bags.  It will settle some.

Add an extra bag of compost when you pour the MM into the bed.

Thanks, gals     It is bad when you doubt yourself, glad you verified.

Camprn - yes, the compost will add.
