Hello from Wisconsin!

Post  Paul_N on 3/3/2014, 10:27 am

Hello,

I'm going to introduce myself. My name is Paul, I'm from Wisconsin. I'm not new to gardening, I've been tending my own garden (19' X 10') and have been somewhat successful for 5 years now. There are some vegetables I would like to grow and haven't had much success with in the past and I think square foot gardening could help with them.

Can't wait to start researching and learn a thing or two from others past successes and failures.

Paul, Welcome to the Forum!  glad you\'re here

If you really want to try SFG, this Forum is here to help you. I think it will change your whole concept of gardening, all for the better. If you have a 10' x 19' space, with a walk around exterior, you can easily fit six 4' x 4' beds in it, or 96 sq ft of pure productivity.

First thing to do is get hold of a copy of All New Square Foot Gardening by Mel Bartholomew. 1st or 2nd Edition, either will work. I got mine on eBay and Amazon. If you follow the simple instructions, you will have success. If you skimp here and there, the results may also be here and there. What are the vegetables that you have had trouble with in the past?

glad you\'re here Paul.  If you have questions about specific crops, just ask.  Someone here will be bound to help you.  We try many crops, including the good and the failures.

Welcome!  I think you'll enjoy SFG, looks nice and the one of the biggest advantages I've found is a lot less weeding!  Hopefully the snow melts soon.  I usually start my broccoli and lettuce ~March 10 but looking at the 18-24" of snow on the garden I'm beginning to wonder if I need to push it back a bit this year.
