Yes! There's definitely hope. The crocuses have appeared here as well. Buds are swollen on all the flowering trees. Peonies are breaking ground. Tulip leaves have shot up. Seems to happen overnight. Spring is near!

Spring is coming

Post  SQFTBIX on 3/11/2014, 1:11 pm

There are signs everywhere.  Here in Maryland, they just took snow out of the forecast for Wed-Thurs so we are getting clues for sure.

My house sitters say the daffys are starting to bloom. I asked them to go out and plant me some sugar snap peas and uncover the garlic and strawberries..

Here in Central Jersey it has been a very snowy winter as well.  lots o
This past weekend we got a taste of spring and then went back to cold.
The snow has finally melted on our lawn and I see the start of some snow crocuses along with mini purple flowers (forgot name - alzhiemers).
Anyway, I am anxious to start my lettuces, carrots, beets, radishes and pototos but know I must be cautious....
Hopefully Spring is coming around the corner.....

Boy, did I need to see THIS!  My hope was almost disintegrated.  Thank you!

We should have some crocus' up also by now.  I'm sure they're out there under the snow SOMEwhere... Rolling Eyes

I just found a single crocus in bloom tucked in a warm corner!
I also have lambs bouncing around. Last ewe lambed day before yesterday.
Of course a snow storm is coming later today.

If you look VERY CLOSELY you can see  a garlic... centre of photo.  Most of the garden still under snow, this bed gets more heat from the house.... SOUTH side

We finally have some spring weather here in maryland, so it is time to presprout the peas. In case anybody is interested, I wrap the pea seeds in several layers of wet paper towels, put them in a ziplock baggie, and put it on top of my water heater for warmth. Wait a couple of days and plant them outside. Works well.

Yesterday it got up to 75 degrees and not to windy. I watered my garlic and it's up to about 6 inches and it really looks good. Of course the forecast for tomorrow is two to three inches of snow and lows around 17 degrees.  Mad Glad I built my little greenhouse to putter in. The kale, spinach and lettuce are providing a couple salads a week.

JohnP...if I were around the Arkansas River with 75 degree weather I'd be fly fishing.

My garlic is up about 6" or so...tulip leaves are up about the same.  Sugar peas were planted yesterday...however, cold front with 20 degree overnights majority of next week (holding off on planting broccoli, cabbage, and cauliflower seedlings).

landarch I used to do quite a bit of wading in the Arkansas but the knees are not much any more. I live about a mile and a half from a fairly good spot that I see waders all the time.
