Shrooms !!!!!! ick !

Post  gategitter on 3/27/2014, 9:52 am

Ok so I bought 4 bags of potting soil the other day to start some seeds indoors.  One of them i layed flat and cut the top out of it. Thats where I put my spinich seedlings.  Then I opened one and put some in different containers to start some other stuff..... Now I find hundreds of mushrooms growing in the containers !!!!!  Why!! Yuk .  I dont mind shrooms but when they finally do their thing well it puts black spoor gunk all over the seedlings.  Is there something I can do to prohibit them from the start !! I didnt buy miracle grow soil and chose a cheaper one.    ugghhhh

fungus is everywhere. Just remove them by hand and carry on.

Did your bags say they added mycorrhizae? That has become quite common in the last couple years. It is various strains of fungus that form a symbiotic relationship with plant roots.

I watched a fascinating program about this last night.

Gate, it really is nothing to worry about. The mushrooms show and then they disappear. This is good.

Camp, what was the program? I'm becoming more and more interested in the soil stuff. It's really crazy what's going on in the soil. I'm thinking all her mushrooms are a GOOD thing??
