Cheater!

Post  LaFee on 4/29/2010, 8:15 am

Was at the DIY store today picking up amendments for my *difficult* flower beds, and they were having a sale on 12-packs of lettuce starts....only 1,50 Euros (that's about $2) for a pack of 12 healthy-looking starts, half red, and half green leaf lettuces.

So I caved.

I have two squares of seedlings that are gangly an putting up a few anemic little leaves, but just aren't looking as healthy as I would like, so I plunked the 12 starts in the next square for inspiration.

I figure I can give away lettuce if I need -- and this way I'll be on my way to a salad just a little faster.

I'll have to try that one again, Boffer -- my mom used to make me eat that when I was little...would be interesting to see how it tastes now that I don't HAVE to eat it!

That's cheating? With a deal like that, I wouldn't call it cheating, I'd call it winning. A lot of my garden is seedlings bought from stores.

I bought six cauli/brocc/brussels/cabbage and 12 celery. My cats were eating my starters that I did so I had to do something! Going back tomorrow for even more. I can get 6 plants for $1.60 from a Mennonite-owned greenhouse. So very worth it.

Where are you located, Bobpick?

Post  ander217 on 4/30/2010, 8:08 pm

Where are you located, Bobpick?

We have a Mennonite greenhouse in our area of Southeast Missouri, and that's about what they charge, too. I bought some rosemary from them last week.

(I hope that's not cheating because I just cannot grow rosemary plants from seed. I don't know why.)
