New to the boards - Austin - Blackeyed peas question

Hello!

I've been SFGing for a few years now. But I finally got my new garden built and up and ready at our current house. I've been without my garden for almost 3 years and I'm so glad to have one again.

A new thing that I'm doing this year are Blackeyed peas (aka cowpeas, southern peas). Has anyone done these SFG yet? What spacing did you use 4/sq or 9/sq? I'm not sure how bushy to expect these to get.

Welcome! I hope you will become a regular around here. Blackeyed peas (love em) tend to be a bit bushier than bush beans, so I've planted mine in a 5-dice arangement. Got the idea from someone else on this forum who was discussing lettuce (I think). This is my first year for blackeyes in SFG, so I'm learning as I go.

Since blackeyes are spaced 4-6 inches, I went with 5. You might also go with 6 in two staggard rows of three each.

Thank you belfrybat! The 5 dice formation sounds promising. I'm growing Queen Anne's. What variety are you doing to try.
