Blackberries/Raspberries/variations thereof

Post  AtlantaMarie on 4/21/2014, 9:01 am

The traditional gardening method for berries is to plant at least 18" deep.  Has anyone had good success with planting them just in the SFG boxes at 6"?  Or 12"?

Marie, please use the search feature to find the back threads about this subject. I bet someone will be along with some other info too.

Although my experience is limited, I can tell you that Gardener's Supply sells berry boxes that are about 7" deep.

And I have a small blueberry bed (three plants) in an 8"-deep bed.

thankyou  Camprn!

Donna - Love my blueberries!  They're our front hedges.  Not raised beds, but prolific all the same.  The 2 on the right are 18 years old.  The 3 other larger ones are about 4 years old.  And there are 2 small wild NH blueberries hiding in there that are 3 years old.

We got 3+ gallons last year thanks to the plastic snakes we used to scare the birds and chipmunk that wanted to set up an apartment under one of the older bushes!
