Hello from a Georgia Newbie

Post  FeedMeSeeMore on 5/6/2014, 2:48 pm

Hi everyone,

I've been seriously lurking here since March when I started some seeds indoors.
and joined for when I need some "there, there" and some advice. Hopefully, I can return the favor, too, after I get some success under my belt.

We have one 4 X 7 SFG bed, some pots and bins until next year. This is an experiment and learning year.

Been working from the original book and this is my first time actually using it.

In the SFG bed are cucumbers, peppers, carrots, onions, chard, turnip greens, some curly leaf lettuce, romaine and basil. Everything from seeds, except the onions and strawberries.

We also have 4 tomatoes, 2 squash and a bunch of strawberry plants in other containers and some directly in the ground.

This morning the cucumbers finally look like they're coming out of weeks of suspended animation ( yea!!) but the beautiful little chard plant leaves are being eaten by something I cannot find for the life of me. Maybe a bug that only comes out at night?

Looking forward to this. I feel addicted already.
PS. Tried to post a few pics but not sure how to. Can't seem to get the "browse" to feature to work.

Hi FeedMe,

Welcome to the forum.  This is a great place to learn good gardening tips.  I am also a bit of a newbie.  This is my second year working with SFG.  I've sidestepped a lot of errors by asking questions here.

I am also in Ga.  I live in Fayetteville.

Again, welcome and happy gardening!

welcome FeedMe! Love the pic of your baby! I just planted my onion sets yesterday, so will have a bit of a wait until I have as much growth as you. SFG boxes are like potato chips - you can't stop at just one!  rofl

GG

PS - I am now singing Feed Me...

Thanks for the hello goosegirl! I tried onion seeds early on. They came right up and then sat there like tiny green sticks for weeks. Tossed them because they had no roots at all. Caved and got the cheapo little onion bulbs in a package at Walmart.

Thanks and I'm right behind you. The only thing I ever planted was flowers from little plastic pots. It's a lot to learn and the new book is on my wishlist for year #2.

FeedMe, I so enjoy gardening using SFG method.  Even with the ups and downs (things affecting my garden that can't be controlled), I still get much satisfaction from working with my beds.  Enjoy your garden!

Welcome FeedMe, I'm also a newbe to this SFG scene. I've traditionally gardened for decades. You're never to old to learn new methods is my belief.

Hi Feedme!  I'm in Buford, so probly about 45 min from you.  Welcome to the party!

+1 on the addiction factor...  My hubby told me at LEAST 7 times we weren't going to spend any more money on the garden this year...  Uh-huh...  as HE goes out and gets stuff for more boxes for me. :-)
