2014 Garden Pictures and 1st Harvest

Post  NAR56 on 5/21/2014, 2:53 pm

Hello All, It has been a while since I posted as I didn't plant a winter garden this year. Our garden is coming along nicely so far and this year we planted Tomatoes, Radish, Bell peppers, Banana peppers, Eggplant, Pole beans, Yellow squash, Cucumbers, Zucchini and Basil.

Below are a few pictures and our 1st harvest of 2014.

Main Bed - Peppers, Eggplant, Pole beans

Tomato and Radish Bed

Tomatoes just forming

Vine Bed -  Yellow squash, Cucumbers, Zucchini

Yellow squash growing well and ready to start trellising after this harvest.

2014 1st Harvest - not much but its a start!

Thanks for looking at our garden pictures!

Your veggie plants look so green and healthy.   I love seeing how the gardens are progressing. Gives me something to look forward to.

Everything looks great, Nar56! I love the way the plants are growing up to the hardware fabric. Why do you have it there? Are you having a cat problem?

And you have cucumbers!  And summer squash! Two veggies that I can't seem to get the hang of yet but keep trying every year even though I say I won't ever do it again. What type are they?

Thanks for the comments everyone! One thing that I think helps with my plants is that I only water with rain water. The plants really respond well to rain water vs city water.

CapeCoddess, I have the plants protecting by the plastic fence / hardware fabric because we have 3 dogs that love to play in MM / fresh compost. I put it there to keep them out. Strangely enough, once the plants get bigger the dogs don't mind the plants or get into the MM anymore.  Very Happy

Well, you're making ME jealous! I don't even have flowers on mine yet.

NAR56, your plants are beautiful and look like miracles of health. No bug or disease damage at all. I hardly ever see that, it seems. You're doing something really right, are very lucky, or both.

Boy those cukes look vigorous!

lol I wondered the same thing until I looked closely at the second picture and figured maybe they could lift the front of the screen up. Then all the radishes would be dangling there waiting for plucking. Pretty clever, eh?

Denese, the plastic fencing is just laid over the box and only attached at the ends. I can just lift up one side and harvest the radish or green onions that I will plant soon. On the main bed the sides come apart so I get get access to the plants.

Thanks everyone for the comments. Soon I will put up the bird netting over the Tomatoes as last year I battled them for ripe tomatoes.  Mad
